Introduction to Adjectives

🔹 What is an Adjective?

An adjective is a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. It tells us more about the quality, quantity, number, or state of the noun.

📌 Examples:

She is a brilliant student. (quality)
We have three dogs. (number)
I ate some rice. (quantity)

Types of Adjectives

🔹 1. Adjective of Quality

Describes the nature or quality of a noun.

e.g. tall, short, honest, brave

🔹 2. Adjective of Quantity

Tells the amount or quantity of something (uncountable nouns).

e.g. much, some, little

🔹 3. Adjective of Number

Tells the number or order of the noun.

e.g. one, two, many, first, second

🔹 4. Demonstrative Adjective

Points to a specific noun.

e.g. this, that, these, those

🔹 5. Interrogative Adjective

Used with nouns to ask questions.

e.g. what, which, whose

🔹 6. Possessive Adjective

Shows possession.

e.g. my, your, his, her, their

Degrees of Comparison

Adjectives change form to show comparison.

🔸 Positive Degree:

Shows the basic quality.

e.g. She is tall.

🔸 Comparative Degree:

Used to compare two nouns.

e.g. She is taller than her sister.

🔸 Superlative Degree:

Used to compare more than two.

e.g. She is the tallest girl in class.

✅ Rules of Comparison:

One-syllable words: tall > taller > tallest
Two-syllable ending in -y: happy > happier > happiest
Long adjectives: beautiful > more beautiful > most beautiful
